Police station
A police station is a building which serves to accommodate police officers and other members of staff. These buildings often contain offices and accommodation for personnel and vehicles, along with locker rooms, temporary holding cells, and interview/interrogation rooms.
In some countries, judicial corporal punishment is administered in police stations, usually on juvenile offenders. This was the case for the administration of birching of boys in the United Kingdom until 1948.
In the Isle of Man up to 1976, boys and young men were birched in the police station adjoining the court immediately after sentence, except where the sentence also included imprisonment.
Similar arrangements still apply today in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where juvenile offenders may be given up to 12 strokes of the cane on the bare buttocks in a police station, and also in The Bahamas for youths aged up to 18.
