The Mine Shaft
1) The Mine Shaft - 835 WASHINGTON STREET, (NORTH EAST CORNER OF LITTLE WEST 12TH). The building , constructed in 1927 as an ordinary business office, would become the most incredible sex-palace in the '70's. Opened in October 1976 and closed in 1985. Yes, this pink building was the Mineshaft. The most infamous sex club there ever was. It wasn't always pink though. But it was always greasy. The building itself started out as a meat packing plant (afterall, we are in the Meatpacking District?). Upstairs, the front room featured a pool table and a bar, and a clothes check. A backroom, with slings, glory-holes, and a little stage area. Downstairs, were the "tubs;" huge tubs filled with urine soaked men, gladly receiving more. 1976, Oct. 26: The Mineshaft in New York City opens. This after-hours club allowed and encouraged virtually all forms of sexual activity among its hot male patrons. It was a mecca for leather/SM types in the Eastern US and Canada. Closed in Nov. 1985.

Hellfire Club
2) Hellfire Club NYC- West 14th and 9th Ave. 1977-1978 circa: Hellfire Club (9th avenue in New York) was opened in New York and was what may have been the first bi/straight club in the city. It evolved from the Catacombs, a gay New York club. It was the first club to host a mix of straight, bi and gay orientations. Before Hellfire found a home, David Nesor and Ed (last name unknown), parties were held in a loft on E 28th Street, then later at the Ballroom in the old Taft Hotel. (Per Emails from Lenny Waller)
The Vault
3) The Vault - the notorious S&M club where thrill-seeking celebs and swingers mingled in the bad old days of the Meatpacking District. Anthony Marini, who owned the dungeon-like venue from 1992-2001, is shopping a tell-all book that he says will name names and blow the lid off scandals involving the rich and famous and the NYPD.
"Some of it is so controversial, there's going to be heat," Marini told Page Six. "It goes into police corruption. I have cops getting involved with transvestites - one who was a beat cop and is still on the force now as a lieutenant. And I'm going to name him." He says a prominent art figure once paid two NYPD cops in full uniform to beat him. "And I have documents showing how the mob set up a phony holding company to take over the Vault building during the redevelopment of the West Side Highway area and swindle the state out of $2 million." The Vault, which occupied the space at 14th Street and Ninth Avenue that's now Stephen Hanson's popular Italian restaurant Vento, was where singles and couples, straights and gays got naked and played bondage and spanking games.
The Chateau 19
4) The Chateau 19 1970's: Chateau 19, a mixed swingers club, held SM nights on Tuesday and Thursdays in New York. Bob and Penny ran Chateau 19.
Club O
5) Club O was held at Fantasy Manor in New York and was run by Judy and Lois, and was located 31 West 21st St. ( Between 5th and 6th )
Le Scenes
6) Le Scenes in New York was run by Mistress Cheyenne and Mistress Honey.
Paddles
7) Paddles in New York and was owned by Michael and Donnie , located 140 West 24th St.
I`ve been to paddles several times. June 1st, 1983, I attended a Corporal party. It was held at Paddles Club. At the time the club was located at 140 West 24th St, in New York, it was owned by Michael and Donni. At first, slave joe and I almost had to pay admittance to the party . We were the featured act!
As it worked out, Sandy York came to our rescue. Paddles, unfortunately, was too small to accomodate the crowd of the party. I mean, the place was packed! Even though Paddles at that location was small , what impressed me, was Michael and Donni. They are two really nice people, to tell you how nice they were, we were even welcomed over the PA system. ( slave joe and myself). Its not everywhere where they make you feel at home. In the course of the night we did our show , talked to many wonderful people and met new ones. I was one of the last to leave, and several times they asked me if I was enjoying myself. Shows they care. So if you plan on visiting New York, I think Paddles is the place! Even though it was small, you can cannot pass up visiting .
I also want to mention Mistress Mir from New Jersey, she was kind enough to put me up during my stay in New York. Originally I wanted to do a photo shoot with her, but it seemed neither of us could make time. Perhaps next visit! I would like to hear from any New York Mistresses or in the area that would like to do a photo shoot with me. Call 760 949 2050. I will make a special trip for photos.

The Loft
8) The Loft - The Loft was created primarliy for Lady Chrsytal. In 1978 Lady Chrystal attended a Corporal Party and met one of the hosts, Richie (Spadafora) Shore, pubisher & owner of Esoteric Press, along with Sandy York. Richie lived in NY and Lady Chrystal lived not to far from me in Royal Oak , Mi. (at the time I lived in Troy, Mi and would go to NYC to the Corporal parties once a month.) I wrote a column for Corporal called , " Mistress Michelle Speaks Out," for several years. Many have commented that during the mid 70s there were a lot of Mistresses that came out of Detroit....not really , it was only a reason for Richie to travel to see Chrystal. Chrsytal ended up moving in with Richie in the late part of 1980. Chrstyal wanted a Club , so Richie funded it. In the late 80`s to early 90's Richie had met Vickie Reeves, married her and formed Fantastic Books in Amityville NY.

Hellfire West
9) Hell Fire West - Detroit Sir Michael and Mistress Pleasure found Hell Fire West in Detroit, Michigan. There is no connection to Hellfire in New York.
A further unpublished part of the Interview with Bill James , concerning The HellFire West Club, is published here for the first time. Reproduced below is a letter Mistress Michelle received, concerning the publication of the original Interview.

I just reviewed my notes on the computer and we started this interview back in early May. Thanks for you patience.
Here is the final copy of the interview for your approval. Please read and correct as you see fit. If the corrections are minor I'll send it out without you seeing the corrected version. If there are some corrections you'd like to approve beforehand, please tell me so I won't misquote or misrepsent you.
With your approval all we need is two things. First, I'll send it to Sandy York of ESOTERIC, and (if you'd like Bill Dasher of GUIDE PUBLICATIONS. If you have anyone else please send me their names and addresses. Second, for everyone we send this to, we should include some photos. If you have some, please send them along.
Of all the interviews I've done, I've never met a more articulate person who was as much fun as you. I'm only sorry we couldn't do this face to face. Business may take me to Detroit in the fall, if it does you can be sure I'll offer you a dinner.
In the first tape you told the story of the HELLFIRE CLUB, naming Michael as the owner. In the second tape you indicated that I probably shouldn't use his name because you both live and work in Detroit and you didn't want to cause any trouble. I wrote it up as a postscript to the interview. If you want to use it please tell me.
