A tantrum (also known as temper tantrum) is a violent demonstration of rage or frustration, most frequently associated with young children, often indicated by screaming and the stamping of feet.

The most common punishment associated with tantrums are time outs to give the offender an opportunity to calm down and regain his/her composure until they can be dealt with rationally. Tantrums that are particularly violent or carried out in a public place are frequently punished with a spanking or corner time, often both.

While adults are often accused of throwing tantrums, they are seldom delivered with the passionate abandon of those given by children. They are a common aspect of ageplay scenario, particularly when the bottom is acting out the role of a preteen child.
