Smoking room (or smoking lounge) refers to a room which is specifically used for smoking in. These can be found in homes, airports, and many office like buildings. Such rooms are usually free to enter and are equipped with chairs and lights. A [[cigarette company sometimes sponsors these smoking rooms, bearing its name on the room walls (e.g. Camel, Lucky Strikes, Woodbine etc..)

Cigarette companies have worked hard to ensure smoking was accommodated in major U.S. airports, which are high-profile locations serving millions of people. Initially providing smoking and no smoking areas was their goal but when that policy failed they fell back on ineffective ventilated smoking rooms.

For a reference on tobacco industry tactics and a scientific study of a smoking room at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, NIH produced a 'Tobacco Control' research paper written in 2004.

In most regions, there is an age restriction for the smoking age (usually 18) to enter such an establishment.

Historical use

A smoking room was traditionally used after dinner in grand residences, usually, but not exclusively, by the gentlemen present at dinner for consuming tobacco and perhaps a glass of brandy.
