The book "The Mother and Her Child" (Britain, 1916) has a table of average weight, height, and circumference of head and chest of boys from birth to age 10.
- at birth: 20.5 inches
- age 1: 29 inches
- age 2: 32 inches
- age 3: 35 inches
- age 4: 38 inches
- age 5: 41.5 inches
- age 6: 44 inches
- age 7: 46 inches
- age 8: 48 inches
- age 9: 50 inches

Look at this graph to find out what size to draw children at various ages, in relation to adults. The horizontal axis is the character's age in years. The vertical axis is the overall body size in head lengths. The green line shows the approximate upper limit (for tall characters), and the red line shows the approximate lower limit (for short characters).
The lines are curved upwards because children grow faster when they are younger.
This table contains the same data in numeric format. Remember that the figures are based on adult heads; a small 3 year old is about 4 adult heads tall, which may mean 5 of his own heads:
- 3 year old: 4 - 4 1/2 heads
- 4 year old: 4 1/2 - 5 heads
- 5 year old: 4 3/4 - 5 1/3 heads
- 6 year old: 5 - 5 3/4 heads
- 7 year old: 5 1/3 - 6 heads
- 8 year old: 5 2/3 - 6 1/3 heads
- 10 year old: 6 - 6 3/4 heads
- 12 year old: 6 1/3 - 7 1/4 heads
- 15 year old: 6 3/4 - 7 2/3 heads
- adult: 7 - 8 heads
