Setting's time

In role play, the setting's time or setting's era is an agreed time or era for the setting of a scene. For example, the Middle Ages, the 17th century, the Victorian era, the early 1900s, the 1950s or the present.

Creative players may also enjoy an even more distant era such as Antiquity, the Stone Age or the Future. The play era will influence the possible roles and the setting: for example, the 18th century may be perfect for a pirate scene, whereas Ancient Rome invites a scene with characters such as a citizen and his/her slave.

Historic language and gestures

The players may enjoy trying mimic the typical language of the era (or certain linguistic stereotypes), as known from historical movies and novels. They may use respectful modes of address that were used in those days. This can be fun and enhance the mood of the scene.

In historic settings, the submissive player (adult or adult child if ageplay is involved) may be taught traditional gestures such as curtseying (for girls and female servants) and bowing (for boys and male servants).
