~~From Ricky's family

Ricky acted as our Major Domo and was an asset to BackDrop events. It is with deep heart that I must report his passing.

History

During the time that BackDrop was in Hayward, Ricky's was our go to place for many of our club events.

  • I always liked the idea of meeting potential "Inner Circle" members. We met at Ricky's as neutral grounds.
  • When BackDrop held a slave auction, the usual procedure was to have dinner at a local restaurant before the actual event. it gave our attendees the chance to talk destress before the event. while we had dinner at many places in the East Bay, Ricky's was our primary choice. the food was good and prices were very reasonable. the menu was quite extensive and it gave everybody a chance to have a meal of their own choosing. the attendees would pay for their own meals, but BackDrop would pay for a wine on the table. (It helped us monitor how much alcohol was being consumed.)
  • Ricky's hosted most of our "First Sunday Brunches". Again, good food and service.
  • We had one of those times when were working a late night. We had gone to Ricky's Sports Bar for dinner. There was only one other couple in the restaurant, and when they left, I thought it would be fun to play a trick on our host, Ricky. I had 'the girls' massaging my shoulders, hands and feet when the couple came back looking for a pair of glasses. Oh the look on his face was truly priceless. He asked Ricky why "that service" wasn't on the menu. We talked for a while and they joined BackDrop. lol
