Fiction is a narrative work of art, in which imagined and not real events are recounted. Fiction can also mean any untrue statement. The most common forms of fiction are stories and novels, but many visual arts (such as movies and television) can also be ways of presenting fiction.

The opposite of fiction is non-fiction.

Any resemblance to actual events, locals or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidently.

– Common phrase to emphasize the fictitious nature of a work
