A Dance Club is usually defined as location or venue where people where guests/ clients/ participants go to dance as opposed to a night club whose purpose is to provide (usually paid) entertainment.

They may be owned by an individual or group of individual who manage the operation of facilities, supplies, advertising and utilities. Although the may occasionally make use of volunteers, the facility is usually maintained by paid employees who act as bartenders, cooks, wait-staff, etc.

Dance clubs will have a theme which will decide the décor, the types of the guests the club attracts and the tenor of music played.

It may or may not have a dress code (fetish attire required etc.) as well as a targeted sexual orientation (such as a straight, lesbian, gay or leather bar).

Dance clubs will have fixed hours (ie, seven days a week, weekend nights, etc.) and a permanent location.

Clubs often have "private party nights". The owners will "rent the hall" to private groups which may over-ride the theme of the establishment.
