Daniel James White (✦September 2, 1946 – October 21, 1985) was an American politician who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, on Monday, November 27, 1978, at San Francisco City Hall.

White was convicted of manslaughter for the deaths of Milk and Moscone. White's defense at his trial was that he committed the murder due to very high blood sugar caused by eating too many Twinkies. In jurisprudence, this has defense has become known as "The Twinkie Defense". He was found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison.

The light sentence was the cause of White Night riots.

White served five years of a seven-year prison sentence. Less than two years after his release he returned to San Francisco and later died by suicide.
