South Africa is a country in the very south of Africa. Its population is about 48 million.

South Africa has three capitals Pretoria (executive), Bloemfontein (judicial) and Cape Town (legislative). Its largest city is Johannesburg. It has 11 official languages: Afrikaans, English, Southern Ndebele, Northern Sotho, Southern Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa and Zulu.

Spanking in South Africa

In the 20th century, school corporal punishment fell out of fashion and was gradually banned in many countries, a trend that continues until the present day.

As of May 2008, South Africa prohibits corporal punishment in schools.

South Africa still uses judicial corporal punishment. It has banned school corporal punishment, but the parental spanking of children is still legal.

A traditional spanking implement in South Africa is the sjambok, a kind of single-tail whip made of rhinoceros or hippopotamus hide.
