A ritual, rite, or form of play where hooks are pierced through the skin and the person hangs from the hooks in the air for any amount of time. The piercings are usually temporary and can be done right before the suspension.

Tools Used

  • Hooks~ Most commonly used hooks are deep sea fishing hooks that have had their barbs removed.
  • Rigging~ Hooks are connected by a rope to a chain or rig so that the person can be winched up. Weight must be evenly distributed.

Terms

  • Coma Suspension~ Hooks are placed in the chest, torso, and leg. Usually done in two rows, the suspendee is lying face up.
  • Knee Suspension~ Hooks are placed in both knees, usually four hooks.
  • Suicide Suspension~ Hooks are placed in the upper back, so that the suspendee is hanging upright.
  • Crucifix Suspension~ Hooks are placed in the arms and upper back, to give the appearance of being crucified.
  • Superman Suspension~ Hooks are placed in the back and legs, to give the appearance of flying.

Anyone with a severe medical issue should not attempt this type of play. There should be juice or water handy and someone with a medical background or certification in CPR and First Aid to monitor in case of an emergency. Hooks should be sterile and the environment that the person is pierced in should be sterile as well. Can cause emotional damage as well, one should make sure they are completely ready and focused for such a strain on the body mentally and physically. Be sure to eat and drink properly 24 hours beforehand to help ensure the body’s normal functioning.
