Marker
A marker, or marker pen, is kind of pen which has its own ink source and usually a tip made of a porous material such as felt. It is also known as a felt-tipped pen. The use of the terms "marker" and "felt-tipped pen" varies significantly among different parts of the world (see the Wikipedia article for more on this).
The ink is usually translucent, not opaque (i.e. a marker colors white paper, but leaves black areas black). Markers are used for writing, drawing, coloring and highlighting, and come in a great variety of shapes, sizes and colors.
Markers are mostly used in children's and teenager's drawings, cartoons, comics, manga, and anime-style drawings. One disadvantage that comes with coloring with markers is that colors can not be erased, tinted or shaded, nor can two colors be mixed well. That is why markers that are produced for artistic purposes come in impressive assortments of colors.
Generally, there are extreme differences in quality between cheap markers for children and high-end art markers.
