The term edgy refers to a book, story, play, or movie that is unusually unsettling or extreme. The term refers to elements that challenge societal norms, e.g. by being cruel, violent, abusive, disgusting, or otherwise disturbing. Edgy artistic works are also sometimes called dark.

In descriptions of spanking stories, "egdy" is often used as a warning.

Edgeplay

In BDSM, types of play that are pushing on the edge of the traditional safe, sane and consensual creed are called edgeplay.
