In computing, the term online refers to a connection to a larger network, usually the Internet.

A computer can be online or offline, i.e. connected or disconnected to the Internet. Content can be accessed online (i.e. from the Internet) or offline (locally from the computer). It is possible to download and save files from Internet sources such as websites for offline use.

Newspapers and magazines often come in both printed and online, only printed, or only online, versions. A magazine distributed solely or primarily online (over the World Wide Web) is known as a webzine.
