HTTP (or Hypertext Transfer Protocol), is the actual communications protocol that enables most Web browsing. It is the set of rules for exchanging files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) between computers. HTTP is extensively used on the World Wide Web. HTTP is supported by the TCP/IP suite of protocols (which are the basis for information exchange on the Internet).
