Matron is a term for:
- a staid and dignified woman
- an older (at least middle-aged) married woman with children
- a woman who acts as a supervisor in an institution such as a school, hospital, or prison.
There is also an adjective matronly which means something like staid, demure or sedate, in the way of a matron.
Because of their stereotypical authority and strictness, matrons are popular disciplinarians in spanking novels, spanking stories, spanking videos and spanking art. They are found in both child spanking art (F/m, F/f) and adult spanking art (F/M, F/F).
