Bamboo is a wood-like material made of the stems of bamboo plants. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on Earth and belongs to the grass family Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae, tribe Bambuseae.

Its stems are hollow and segmented. In dried form, they are typically yellowish brown, lightweight, and come in diameters ranging from a few millimeters to 10 or more centimeters, and are typically sold in lengths of one to four meters. The timber bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii) grows an amazing 2 to 3 feet a day until it reaches 45 feet or higher.

Bamboo can be used in gardening, in furniture making or for the making of trestles.

Bamboo canes

Bamboo canes can be used for corporal punishment, but are generally considered unsafe because they can easily break and splinter, causing severe injuries if they do. Rattan canes, which are flexible, are much safer. Bamboo canes are generally used only because they are cheaper and more easily available in shops.

Bamboo paddles

From segments of bamboo of big diameter, paddles can be made. These paddles are slightly curved, hard and smooth on the outside, and generally well-suitable for spanking. The risk of splintering is lower than for bamboo canes because the material is not as thin.

Bamboo skewers

Bamboo skewers are long, skinny slivers of bamboo (usually 10-12" long and 1/16" in diameter) resembling larger toothpicks. In light BDSM, they can be used to scratch the skin. As a torture device slivers can be pushed into the finger or toe nail bed to create excruciating pain.
