Extra chores is a common type of punishment, mainly used for children in the home, in boarding schools and similar institutions.
The child is given an assignment to do one or several household chores that are extra, i.e. in addition to his/her usual chores. Common examples are:
- washing up the dishes
- cleaning the kitchen or bathroom
- cleaning the windows
- mowing the lawn
- weeding the garden
Extra chores can ge assigned as a single activity or as a regular activity for a period of time (e.g. one or two weeks). In practice, the chore may often need to be supervised or inspected to ensure it is done properly.
