In the Western mystery tradition, Evocation is the act of evoking, calling upon, or summoning a spirit, demon, deity, or other supernatural agent. Conjuration also refers to summoning, often using a magical spell. Necromancy is the practice of conjuring the ghosts or spirits of the dead for divination. Comparable practices exist in many religions and magical traditions, and they may employ mind-altering substances with and without uttering word formulas.
