India is a country in South Asia and the second-most populous country in the world (after China). It has a population of over 1.1 billion (2005).

India has 23(!) official languages: Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Maithili, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Hindi and English are used by the Union Government of India for official purposes, wherein Hindi has a de jure priority.

Corporal punishment in India

In the 20th century, school corporal punishment fell out of fashion and was gradually banned in many countries, a trend that continues until the present day.

As of May 2008, India permits corporal punishment in schools.

Corporal punishment is lawful as a disciplinary measure in penal institutions.

Spanking in India

Spanking and other methods of corporal punishment of children are common in India. Spankings are often refered to as "beatings" in Indian English, but this word does not generally carry the negative connotations that the term "beating" does in other countries.

In Indian schools, corporal punishment is usually given with a cane. There is no national prohibition in law of corporal punishment in schools, but certain states have passed laws banning school corporal punishment: Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh (2002), Tamil Nadu (2003), West Bengal (2004, in state schools), Chandigarh (in the 1990s), Delhi (2003), Goa. However these laws are insufficiently enforced and in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, corporal punishment is still quite frequent.

Spanking is also common in the home. Besides the cane, a commonly used spanking implement in India is the chappal, a kind of sandal.

Another typically Indian punishment method is murgha, in which the delinquent is made to assume an uncomfortable and embarassing punishment pose.

Indian spanking art and films

There is little or no Indian spanking art, literature or fetish films known to exist so far. However, in mainstream films playful scenes of men spanking (fully clothed) women occur in romantic comedies including Shandaar (1990, video clip: Sevenload), Judwaa (1997) and Yamadonga (2007, video clip at Sevenload) and in dramas such as Aap Ki Khatir (1977, video clip: Dailymotion) and Sapne Sajan Ke (1992, video clip: YouTube).

The Kama Sutra mentions erotic spanking, and a few historic Indian sculptures and paintings show erotic scenes that have a hint of spanking.

Kiki London is an Indian spanking actress who appears in videos by English Spankers such as The New Girl Kiki London (photos, part 2 photos).

Indian actress Jasmina appears in the following British-produced spanking videos:
