Russia, also called the Russian Federation, is a transcontinental country that belongs partly to Europe and partly to Asia and extends over much of northern Eurasia. Its capital and largest city is Moscow.
Russia's population is multiethnic and comprises about 142 million. The population density is higher in the west and south of the nation and lower in the north and east. The biggest ethnic group is Russians (about 80%), followed by Tatars, Ukrainians, Chuvash, Chechen, and Armenians. The country's official language is Russian throughout the nation, but twenty-seven other languages have a co-official status in their regions.
Russia established worldwide power and influence from the times of the Russian Empire (1721-1917) to being the largest and leading constituent of the Soviet Union (1922-1991). The Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, the birth of the modern Russian Federation.
Spanking in Russia
In the 20th century, school corporal punishment fell out of fashion and was gradually banned in many countries, a trend that continues until the present day.
As of May 2008, Russia prohibits corporal punishment in schools. Corporal punishment has a long, ancient tradition in most parts of Russia. This spans practically all areas, from judicial corporal punishment (such as whipping of convicted criminals and prisoners) to military corporal punishment (such as whipping of soldiers) and, in milder forms, corporal punishment of children in the home and institutions such as orphanages and schools.
As in many other parts of the world, Russian culture traditionally also accepted the corporal punishment of serfs by their lords, servants by their masters, and wives by their husbands. Historically traditional spanking implements are birch rods, knout, and nettles. Canes became popular in the late 19th century. Nowadays, the most popular (almost national) spanking implemented in Russia is the leather belt. Less popular are types of whips, switches and sticks.
It was a team of Russian scientists who found scientific support for medical therapeutic whipping in 2005.
Russian spanking art
Russia's current legislation regarding pornography seems to be more liberal in certain aspects than that of many other countries. This may be one reason why many erotic and pornographic websites that are over, on or near the edge of legality in other countries are hosted in Russia and often have .ru domain names (for example, imgsrc.ru). This includes BDSM, spanking and pedophile erotica.
Nettles Corporation is a Russian producer of caning and spanking videos based in Moscow. A Russian spanking site is Mark Desadov's world (contains mostly BDSM content).
