Robert Davolt (✦June 27, 1958 - May 16, 2005)

Until his illness he was editor of Bound and Gagged and also had a regular online column at the Leatherpage.com. His readership among the international gay leather community was nearly 125,000. In 2004, critics praised his first book "Painfully Obvious: An Irreverent & Unauthorized Manual for Leather/SM", nominated for an American Library Association Stonewall Book Award.

As San Francisco Leather Daddy XIX, he has been an active fundraiser for many charities several years. Robert was editor of the Drummer Magazine and executive producer of the International Drummer Contest in San Francisco. During his 30 years of freelance writing, his work appeared in such diverse outlets as the San Francisco Examiner, SF Frontiers, Bay Area Reporter, the Leather Journal, and the Official Programs of the Folsom and Castro Street Fairs.

At 17, he joined the US Navy for six years. He earned a BA in Political Science at the U of Missouri.

Robert died on May 16, 2005 after a brief battle with melanoma cancer.

Robert Davolt is survived by his loving partner of seven years, Joe Granese of San Francisco. Also surviving in Seattle, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Davolt; two brothers, David and Steven; and sister, Deborah.
