Kiss Me, Kate is a stage musical interpretation of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew by Samuel and Bella Spewack (book) and Cole Porter (music and lyrics) that ran for 1,077 performances and was first performed in New York on December 30, 1948.
This musical has a well-known scene in which Fred Graham, a musical theater actor, gives his former wife and co-actress, Lilli Vanessi, a spanking onstage. This is the best-known example of spanking in performing arts.
The musical was made into a movie and also television productions.
