Description
: A tape gag is, as the name suggests, a type of gag that involves the use of sticky tape. The most commonly used types are duct tape, gaffer tape and PVC tape from two to three inches wide. Tape gags are the simplest gags to apply to someone. If you don't want the gag to fall off, you should also wrap the tape around the person's head. A strip from ear to ear under the jaw will also help restrict jaw movement, making the gag more effective.

: Though many prefer ball gags and bit gags during bondage play, tape gags are often used when neither is available. The top may also use tape during a role play where a ball gag might be inappropriate; for example, a kidnapper and captive scene that does not immediately lead to sex or kink.

: While tape gags can be combined with stuff gags for extra effectiveness, it is easy for one to choke on the stuffing inside of the mouth.

: To reduce the "stickiness" of tape, apply Vaseline to the skin, or talcum powder to the tape.

Notes on various types of tape
; Adhesive Tape (Medical)
: This stuff was originally designed for use on the battlefield. It is designed to stick forever, even when wet. Think about it.

; Bondage Tape
: Bondage tape is basically PVC tape without any adhesive on it. It sticks to itself, but not skin. It tends to be pricey, but is is reusable if removed with care and rewound onto the original spool.

; Drafting Tape
: Very similar to Masking tape, but the adhesive is much like that of a Post-it note. It is used by draftsmen to hold paper to a table, and not tear the paper when it's removed. It is paper-based so it may not have the aesthetic appearance or feel you are looking for.

; Duct Tape
:Originally designed to hold air-conditioning duct sections together, it was engineered so that once installed, it would stay installed. The adhesive is extremely sticky and placed on a canvas backing. The longer you leave the tape on, the harder it will be to remove.

: If used on human flesh, the adhesive holding the tape in place is stronger than that holding layers of skin together. Removing a tape gag will cause hair or the skin to be removed from the human body. This can be reduced by coating the tape or skin with petroleum jelly, but PJ presents other problems. You could also put a layer of Saran Wrap or cloth next to the skin with tape over it. Maybe this requires a little more planning and fore-thought, but it is easier than looking for a new play partner.

:There is an old joke that goes:
::"Why is Duct Tape like 'The Force' in 'Star Wars'?"
::"Because it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the Universe together!"
: There is a reason for this joke.

; Gauze-Tex
: Designed to hold bandages in place but stick to skin, Gauze-Tex is basically rolls of surgical gauze impregnated with a waxy adhesive. It can be found in almost every drug store.

;Masking Tape
: Designed to hold up to water-based paints, this paper-based tape is stronger than drafting tape, but again, it is a paper-based tape

; PVC
: Most Electrician's tape on the market in the US is PVC based. It is flexible (unlike paper-based tapes) and quite durable. It comes in most of the primary colors, and is fairly inexpensive. Again, if given the time and choice, lay down Saran Wrap or cloth before using this tape.

; Vet Wrap
: Originally designed for use by Veterinarians on animals with hair, this tape is quite similar to Gauze-Tex. Vet Wrap, on the other hand, comes in a wide range of colors and widths. It is usually available at Tack Shops.
