Well, to the North, Chicago did it again!!! I have always maintained that "In LEATHER... NOBODY does it better than International Mr. Leather!!!" And this being their 20th Anniversary year, IML proved that and much, much more! This Grand daddy of Leather Conventions, was held, as it always is, on Memorial Day Weekend.
Up from Florida this year were: Ray Adams, Publisher ofCruisin', Get Kinky, Florida Fetish Forum, and many more; Trainer Frank, for Black Horse Sales; My Special Guest, Our magnificent Florida Leather woman Sybil King, current Ms. Florida Olympus and Founder of Florida M.A.S.T. Orlando and her devoted boy, jt, who was also serving as My PASSION Magazine's videographer for the event.
Since, in addition to covering for the above publications, plus My Own, I was also serving as an IML Contest Judge this year, the pace got pretty hectic, but, all in all, it was a super-spectacular Leather Weekend in one of My Favorite Cities, Chicago! Host Hotel for the event was the Ramada Congress, but there were so many leather folks that they packed over 6 of the adjacent Downtown Chicago Hotels. The Leather Market. with close to 90 International Vendors, was, as per usual, a spectacular experience for any leather lover.
Most of the Big Ones were there, including Northbound, Mr. S/Fetters, Heartwood Whips of Passion. JT Toys, Gauntlet, Inc., Leatherbound/LDC Leathers, Catalina Video, Paul C Leather, Whips by Metz, Rochester Custom- Leathers, and a lot of local and regional merchants I'd never seen before, all displaying their very best in kinkery.

Another important feature of this IML Weekend was the LA&M "Silent Auction" Many different items were available for bidding, including toys, videos, books, magazines, artwork. From Our Passion Quarters, We contributed a Complete Collector's Edition of ALL the Magazine issues. Premiere to Present.

There were, of course, a ton of bar and private parties filling the entire weekend, including the Opening Ceremonies; The Beer, Biceps, and Butts Physique Prejudging; Mr. Ebony Leather Contest; the Fifth Annual and FINAL Heavy S/M Pit Party at the Chicago Eagle; the Victory Celebration Party at the Chicago's House of Blues; the IML Black and Blue Ball....and countless others! Whatever Your Leather Taste might have been...Chi- cago had it IML Weekend!
THE BIG EVENT!!!
The 1998 International Mr. Leather 20th Anniversary Contest and Show was held at the Congress Theater and, once again, it was a packed house! Emcee Frank Nowicki (Is there a leather event out there that this leather legend hasn't presided over??) charmed the crowd with his quick wit and gallant style! (Damn, this guy cuts a hot figure in a leather tuxedo!!) A special Leather Anthem for the 20th Anniversary of IML brought the entire theater crowd to Its feet and tears to many eyes. Mine included!

WORLD-WIDE LEATHER!
There were 62 Contestants this year, quite a World Wide selection of sexy, hot, intelligent leathermen, I must say!!! The International participation seems to be ever-growing, making this TRULY an "International" title. Studly looking contestants strutted their stuff from six countries, 24 states and Puerto Rico. Next year, IML tells Me, will bring even more!
THE NEW IML 98
The dynamic leatherman who forged forward to take the IML Title...Tony Mills, Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather 98, was Sponsored by The Centaur Motorcycle Club of Virginia. Tony is 36 years old, a former physician, and has recently moved to Miami from Washington. D.C. He is heavily involved in Leather Community Projects already including: Board of Directors, Tom of Finland Foundation and the Leather Archives & Museum Regional Coordinator for South Florida. Mr. Mills is currently active in addiction treatment programs. HIV Recovery, and fundraising in the D.C. area. INTERNATIONAL MR. BOOTBLACK...
This year's International Mr Boot Black winner was Matthew Duncan. sponsored by the DC Eagle in Washington, DC. 1st runner-up was Fred Michmershuizen, sponsored by GMSMA of New York City. 2nd runner-up was Paul Frazier, sponsored by Dungeon Bear Leather, Inc of Ft Lauderdale, Florida.
In May, 1999, International Mr. Leather will host the Seventh Annual Bootblack Competition. In its first six years, the competition was open to all bootblacks, male, female, or transgendered. However, at the International Ms. Leather ("IMsL") contest in July, 1998, producer Amy Marie Meek announced that she and IML producer Chuck Renslow had agreed that in 1999 IML I would sponsor a competition for female bootblacks.
As a result of that agreement, in May, 1999, during IML weekend, the International Mr. Bootblack will be chosen. The competition will be open to male or male-identified bootblacks. Then at IMsL in July, 1999, International Ms. Bootblack will be chosen from a field of female or female-identified boot-blacks.

The Weekend Package for International Mr. Leather, 1999 is now available. The 1999 Weekend begins Thursday afternoon. May 27, 1999 with Registration at the Congress Hotel. The infamous IML Leather Market opens at noon on Friday. Each year this market gets bigger and better than the previous. In 1998 there were almost 80 vendors from all over the U.S. and Beyond with thousands and thousands of leather related items for sale! The 1999 year promises to be bigger and better than ever! Later Friday evening.will be the Opening Ceremonies, in which attendees are introduced officially to the IML Judges, past title holders and the 1999 contestants. On the raunchier side, the Beers Biceps & Butts: Physique Prejudging will be held Saturday night at Plumber's Hall. Last year, this proved to be and extremely social and relaxed evening, in a great space with friendly and cooperative staff. Once again this year it will be a chance to see each of the year's contestants with a minimum of clothing on...and, in some cases it is MINIMUM CLOTHING, MAXIMUM FLESH!!!
On Sunday Evening, May 30. 1999, the International Mr. Leather 20th Anniversary Contest and Show will kick off once again! Get ready to see some of the World's hottest Leather Men competing for the title of International Mr. Leather 1999! Winners of the 1999 Boot Black Competition will-also be announced at this time.
If previous years' parties are any indication the Post Contest Victory Celebration Blast at Chicago's infamous House of Blues is sure to be a whole lot of fun and sweaty men! In addition, there will once again be an AIDS Candlelight Memorial Service for those attending IML. This annual service will be held, as per usual, at St Clement's Church on Chicago's North Side. Closing out the big leather weekend frolic will be The Infamous Black and Blue Ball, at the Chicago Eagle. This is promoted as "the original sweat disco"...hard bodies and lots of flesh in the final blow-out party of the weekend. This is such a fun event, it is well-worth booking a late flight and doing a late checkout from the hotel on Tuesday, just to participate in this wild and wooly event!
On Memorial Day in Chicago, the Chicago Leather Communities traditionally come together and welcome their leather kin. This is evidenced by the many, many parties privately sponsored by local leather bars, businesses and organizations. The Windy City DOES live and breath LEATHER during this special weekend! In July 1987 Mistress Aurelia married her the slave lenny. Mistress Aurelia was from Chicago and later changed her name to Mistress Diamond . In attendance to this wedding were Mistress Linda Scott from New Orleans, Mistress Cynthia , Mistress Ann Murray, and Mistress Michelle from Ca. I had just moved to Ca. from Detroit. The following day we were going to pierce slave lenny. Mistress Diamond gave me full authority to pierce lenny. There are different ways to do a piercing , one way , numb the area , mark it and put the slave in a conformtable position. However we never numbed the area , put him in a comfortable position , nor did we mark the area. This was a symbolic piercing to show ownership of a slave. And a bond between her slave and Mistress. I did the piercing assisted by Mistress Diamond and Mistress Ann. Mistress Diamond had already put lenny through over two hours of of spanking, whipping , ball torture , nipple torture, bondage and humiliation. We were doing a photo shoot and the idea of the piercing didn't come up until we took a break from shooting photos. Somehow we got up the subject of exotic make up and Mistress Diamond was talking about the different looks she achieved while being made up. I loved exotic make up and decided to do the rest of the shoot with exotic make up.
Fourteen gauge round bead rings were chosen, the diameter was 5/8 " and the strength of these rings were exceptionally strong. We placed the rings in a container of alcohol. We secured slave lenny to a X frame in the dungeon, we cleaned the area to be pierced and he was ready for his rings. I used pennington forceps to grab a hold of his nipple then proceed to push a fourteen gauge needle through his nipple. Then I opened the ring and followed it behind the needle , the slave was in great pain and he turned white as snow. With one nipple to go and seeing lenny wasn't doing good , I wasnt sure if it was a good idea to proceed. However we did and as far as know he is still proudly wearing those rings.
Remember when choosing rings , the size and type are important , but whats more important is finding someone experienced in this area. Today there are many tattoo shops that do piercings and I would suggest doing research before being pierced.
