Micropedia - Definitions

BD, B/D, or B&D

Bondage and Discipline or Bondage and Dominance. Sometimes used interchangeably with SM, but referring more strictly to bondage and role-playing or humiliation, rarely with any great deal of pain. BDSM: bondage, domination, sadism, masochism: An overall compilation of overlapping initials intended to identify three components of play: BD, DS, and SM. (see also BDSM)

Bad pain

Good pain and bad pain are terms used lightheartedly by BDSM practitioners, signifying that whilst BDSM may include an element (often quite pronounced) consensual pain, there is a purpose to it, and some pain is consented to and accepted whilst other pain is not. "Bad pain" is pain which is outside hard limits, non-mutual or non-valued, not wished for, and of limited or no value in this context.

Ballbusting

Ballbusting is a masochistic paraphiliac activity in which a male is hit or kicked in the testicles by another person. Since the testicles are sensitive to impact, this can be extremely painful.

Ball Gag

A device with a rubber ball and straps, which secures the ball in the bottom's mouth to stifle screams.

Ball Stretcher / Ball Stretching

The practice of stretching the scrotal sack so that it hangs lower using weights or other devices to pull on it above the testicles. As the sack is pulled, the testicles are squeezed leading to discomfort and sometimes pain.

Ball Torture

Ball Torture (BT) refers to a range of techniques to cause sensation, discomfort and pain in the male testicles and scrotum. Common examples of favorite techniques are squeezing with hands, slapping and beating with hands and other objects, crushing with various vise-like devices, and applying pressure with bindings, straps and weights. Often found in conjunction with cock torture (CT), thus CBT. As most men know, the balls are highly sensitive, particularly to pressure. Most men find handling, stroking and squeezing gently is a pleasurable sensation in itself, and the boundary between strong sensation and outright pain seems particularly malleable here. For many people there is also the thrill that the balls are regarded as probably the most delicate and vulnerable part of the male anatomy and using them in SM games requires great trust and carries a particularly intense charge.

Ballet Boots

Extremely high heeled boots that require you to stand on the ends of your toes rather than the sole of your foot. Usually they have heels that are 8-9 inches and require considerable training and ability to walk in without assistance. Sometime also referred to as bondage boots.

Barbell

A straight piece of metal used in piercing, as opposed to a ring.

Bartholin's gland - (see 'Sex organs')

Two glands located slightly below and to the left and right of the opening of the vagina in women. They produce a waxy secretion which is sometimes described as being a lubrication for sexual congress.

Light wooden rod or bundle of twigs, traditionally from the birch tree; striking with such an implement.

Blindfold

Temporarily blocking the sense of sight is a common technique in SM scenes. It can make the bottom feel more vulnerable, help them concentrate or 'get into the headspace', and is essential to the sorts of abrasion and surface play games where everyday objects are used to give unexpected sensations. There are general-purpose, ready-made blindfolds such as the cheap ones made for travelers and often distributed free by airlines; more expensive ones in leather or rubber are found in sex shops. Improvised blindfolds that are quite effective range from scarves, hankies and long socks to bandages.

Blood Sports

A group of techniques in which the submissives skin is broken and blood is allowed to escape. Such as cutting, using needles, etc. See also "Edgeplay or Blood play."

Making permanent but usually superficial alterations to the appearance of the body, sometimes by painful processes like branding, piercing or scarification.

Body Training

Uses specialized apparatus to train a body part or area to look a certain way for an extended period of time. Corsets are used to train the waist and lower abdomen to make it smaller. Nipple training devices pull the nipple out from the breast to lengthen it.

Bondage body bag

A body bag is a leather, rubber, or canvass bag into which a bottom can be restrained. They are typically close fitting with lacing and straps to ensure that once in the bottom can not esacpe. Body bags are suitable for long term bondage sessions as they do not stress the body in any way likely to cause damage.

Boi

Bois almost always identify as lesbians, dykes, or queers; many are also genderqueer or practice genderfuck. Bois can prefer a range of pronouns, including 'he', 'she', or gender-neutral pronouns

Bottom

submissive or one who gives up control, or simply one who receives physical sensation from a Top in a scene. It is an umbrella term for the person in the scene who takes the submissive, receptive or masochistic role. (See also the Roles and Functions) BDSM activities go on between two (and sometimes more) partners.

Boy

Term for male submissive (see also "boi" above)

Boy Toy

A male who is submissive to a dominant. Dominant can be either male or female.

Branding

Making a permanent or semi-permanent scar on the skin by burning it with a heated metal object, as practiced on livestock and in earlier times on slaves and criminals. Can be carried out safely with the correct technique and aftercare, but still likely to be intensely painful, and seen by some as the ultimate either in body art or as the culmination of a heavily submissive relationship or scene.

Brat

Term for a sub who tries to get the attention of a Dom/me by "acting up."

Breast Bondage

Tying up the female breasts with rope.

Breast press

A device that squeezes the breasts.

Breath Play

Another type of "edgeplay" whereby the submissive's breath is stopped for a short period of time to increase pleasurable sensations. Also called asphyxiaphilia, autoerotic asphyxiation, breath games, breathplay and hypoxyphilia. Very Dangerous.

Brown showers (Bs)

Using feces (scat) in an erotic context. The scientific name for being aroused by excrement is coprophilia, though games involving shit are known more commonly (and euphemistically) by the term scat (this word is derived from 'scatology', originally the medical practice of diagnosis through the inspection of feces.

Bukakke

Sexual scene where many men masturbate on and give a "semen bath" to a willing submissive.

Bullwhip

A long, heavy leather whip usually longer than 4 feet.

Burlesque

In the early twentieth century Burlesque emerged as a populist blend of satire, performance art and adult entertainment which featured strip tease and broad comedy acts. The word burlesque means imitation or satire. Burlesque is enjoying a revival known as neo-burlesque using a more Las Vegas style stage settings and dancers.

Butt Plug

A "sex toy" shaped to fit into and stay inside the rectum. Much like a dildo, only shaped slightly differently, it has a flared base allows for safe anal penetration. They come in a variety of sizes; some can vibrate.

Butt Plug Harness

Usually a leather harness that prevents a buttplug from being removed either intentionally or accidentally from the rectum.

Butterfly board

A wooden or plastic board onto which a male's scrotum can be nailed or pinned.
