Intercourse

Anal intercourse

Anal sex or anal intercourse is a form of human sexual behavior. While there are many sexual acts involving the anus, anal cavity, sphincter valve and/or rectum, the specific meaning describes the insertion of the penis into the rectum. It is a form of sexual intercourse considered to be particularly risky, for a number of reasons related to the vulnerability of the tissues and the septic nature of the anus.

Such relations have been documented in a wide range of cultures, from earliest times. Where they involved two males, they have also been controversial and sometimes condemned since antiquity. Anal sex is encountered among people of all sexual identities and orientations. While it is reported more frequently among same-sex couples, in absolute numbers, more heterosexual couples have anal sex than homosexual couples.

Oral intercourse

Oral sex consists of all the sexual activities that involve the use of the mouth, tongue, and possibly throat to stimulate genitalia. It may be used as foreplay before intercourse, as climax of a sexual act, during, or following intercourse. It is sometimes performed to the exclusion of all other forms of sexual activity. Oral sex may or may not include the ingestion or absorption of semen and/or vaginal fluids. Ingestion of these fluids alone, without physical mouth-to-genital contact (e.g., the extreme form of facial known as bukkake), is not considered to be oral sex—although it remains an extreme erotic practice nevertheless. Common slang terms for oral sex include "going down on," "giving head to," "giving a blowjob to" (male recipient), "blowing" (male recipient), "eating out" (female), "licking out" (female) or "sucking off" (male) a sexual partner.

Vaginal intercourse

Sexual intercourse, also called coitus, or simply, to have sex is the human form of copulation. While its primary evolutionary purpose is the reproduction and continued survival of the human species, it can also be used for sexual pleasure exclusively.

Coitus may be preceded by foreplay, which leads to sexual arousal of the partners, resulting in the erection of the penis and natural lubrication of the vagina.

Coition of a Hemisected Man and Woman (c. 1492) is an artist's interpretation of what happens inside the body during coitus by Leonardo da Vinci. To engage in sexual intercourse, the erect penis is inserted into the vagina and one or both of the partners move their hips to move the penis backward and forward inside the vagina to cause friction, typically without fully removing the penis. In this way, they stimulate themselves and each other, often continuing until orgasm and ejaculation are achieved. Penetration by the hardened erect penis is also known as intromission, or by the Latin name immissio penis.
